AI: The next extinction event?

The term "AI" has been popping up a lot more recently throughout the past 4 years.  Artificial Intelligence has been something that we've imagined for a long time, ever since computers were invented.

AI is being used as a sort of buzz word for machine learning, as in it's current state, that's all it is.  AI as what we'd assume it to be, would be a form of intelligence that embodies human elements that are cognitive, and have self-awareness.  Some things look close to this, such as OpenAI's relatively new release of their GPT project known as GPT 4 Omni (GPT4o), so much so that you can actively talk back and fourth with a human persona.  But this is still not true "AI" as we've imagined it, it's still just plain old machine learning, all-be-it very impressive machine learning.

Some of the new tools that are coming out of this new wave and craze for AI could have some serious damaging effects on society.
